FAQ’s

Here are a few of the most common questions we are asked by our potential guests.

Why are you based in Canterbury?

Longest season, best snow, biggest mountains, most skifields, not too many people, best heliskiing, less touristy than other regions, easy to get to but off the beaten track, stunning scenery, competitive airfares into Christchurch – how’s that for a start?

How many chalets do you have?

We just have one chalet, so when you are part of a group staying at The Neon PomPom, you are literally the only people that matter.

Do I have to rent the whole chalet?

Not at all – you can stay at the Neon PomPom as a single individual, a couple or  as a group. For small groups of 4 or less we have a ‘half chalet’ option which means you rent one floor of the chalet, with 2 bedrooms. If you’re just a couple, you can rent by the room. Transportation and skiing options will be allocated across guests based on ability and preference.

Is it expensive?

There are a lot of cheap ‘combo’ deals out there that are pretty tempting. However these deals aren’t all-inclusive, often restrict your options and only ever tell part of the story – with the Neon PomPom, you know there are no hidden costs or unknowns, and our one price covers everything.

Why wouldn’t I just rent a house and do it myself?

You could, but there wouldn’t be a whole lot of point. The Neon PomPom costs around the same as it would cost to organise a holiday with a similar level of accommodation and catering yourself – not to mention a whole lot easier and more personable – and you get a dedicated team looking after every aspect of your trip. Can you cater for specific dietary requirements?

Yes. Our weekly menu is customised to your preferences / requirements. If you can inform us of any special requirements before you arrive, we can ensure you will be properly looked after.

Can you cater for young children?

Definitely. If your kids are too young to ski, we have a babysitting service at the chalet while you are skiing. If they are ready for the slopes, they will be looked after and taught to ski at the same time as you. Best of all, kids under 10 years old stay and ski for free.

Do you supply all the gear I need?

As ski and board rental is a requirement that varies with the individual, this is an additional cost (budget around $35 / day). As far as clothing goes, skiing and boarding does require some specialist gear and you may wish to purchase some items. We can advise you what you’ll need and help get the appropriate gear for you when you’re here. For a thorough list of what we think you’ll require, have a look at The Neon PomPom Information Pack.

What other costs will I have when I’m in New Zealand?

Minimal, if any at all. Provided you bring the gear as specified, everything you need for a great ski holiday is covered by our single price. Obviously, big ticket optional extras like heli-skiing will incur an extra cost.

What's the best time to visit?

There is no ‘best’ time to visit – each part of the season can be recommended for different reason based on what you’re after. For a more thorough explanation, check out our When to Visit page.

How long should we come for?

As long as you’ve got! But realistically, we suggest you come for at least three full days on the slopes – this allows you to warm into your work, make the most of the catered chalet experience and reduces the likelihood of you missing out if the weather goes awry.

I am a beginner skier / boarder - is the Neon PomPom for me?

Absolutely. Our comfortable environment and coaching over the course of a week is possibly the best way to start your snow sport ‘career’. We have no ski instructor bad attitudes here!

I’m looking for a challenge...will I get this with the Neon PomPom?

If you’re a good rider looking to step up to the next level, the Neon PomPom Freeski Academy will challenge you and take you well beyond what you thought you could do. And you’ll have a lot of fun in the process.

Our group has a range of abilities. Can this work?

The plan for each day is based on recommendations from your hosts (us) and group consensus (you). If there are a range of abilities, you may decide to apportion your guides’ time accordingly to those who need it / want it the most.

What type of Guarantee does the Neon PomPom offer?

We are so confident that you’ll love the Neon PomPom that we promise the following:

“The most enjoyable, stress-free NZ ski holiday you have ever had – or it’s on us.’

If that’s not good enough for you guys, then we give up.
